WSC condemns the attack on Sindhi Hindus in Memon Goth, Karachi, 14th July 2010 London, UK, 14th July 2010 : WSC is deeply shocked at the reports emerged in the international press today that several people belonging to the Hindu community in Memon Goth Karachi Sindh have been attacked, injured and evicted from their ancestral homes.
The authorities especially the Karachi police have totally failed in providing security to the community. The incident occurred when a Sindhi Hindu boy drank water from a cooler in front of a mosque in the area. Fearing further persecution some 400 Hindu families have sought refuge in some filthy (cattle) pen and living a miserable life. The World Sindhi Congress has expressed its severe anger and strongly condemned this act of intolerance. "How this shameful act of violence can occur in the land of Latif, Sachal, Sami and other Sufi legends whose teachings of united and peaceful co-existence have been the source of inspiration and code of life for Sindhi people through out the centuries?" asked Dr Haleem Bhatti, Chairman of World Sindhi Congress," I am shocked and cannot find proper words to condemn this inhuman treatment of our fellow Sindhi nationals." continued Dr Bhatti.
In its press release, issued from London today, the WSC has also appealed all Sindhi nationalists’ parties to mediate and help to sort out the matter as it is an obligation of all Sindhi patriots not to allow any kind of division among Sindhis on the basis of religion at this most difficult time in our history. The peace loving, secular and tolerant, Sindhi nation simply cannot afford any kind of religious or sectarian violence on their soil today as we, as a nation, are still suffering from the consequences of minor religious confrontations brought to us by our enemies 64 years ago. We the Sindhi people must stand united, strong and undivided in condemning all forms of religious intolerance which is great need of our times.
